Embracing the Season

My mood is definitely affected by the weather, and I live somewhere that tends to be very gray for many months of the year. Northwest Montana is a gorgeous place to live but spring, summer, and fall are way too short, and winter is very, very long. The cold season always creeps up on me, and as much as I try to prepare I just never quite am. It is hard for me to adapt from the longer warmer days with more daylight to get outdoors and move, work in the yard, hike, and walk the dog, to the darker colder days, where I can't seem to fit in the outdoor time, and I really want to stay in bed where it's cozy and warm. So, I have to transition the ways I move and find ways to enjoy the colder weather, even if that means getting outside on cold gray days. Skiing, bundling up and walking or hiking, and of course shoveling snow are always options. I also join local Pilates and hot yoga studios that have evening and weekend classes that I can fit into my schedule. This forces me to leave my house after getting home from work and go and enjoy time with others that prioritize wellness and fitness in their lives.
My goal for wintering this year is to try and embrace the change in season and enjoy what it offers instead of struggling through it and counting down the days for warmer weather. I'll include you on my journey through the chilly days and share the recipes I create and the ways I find to move and stay well.
